USG’s abuse-resistant drywall portfolio includes enhanced panels with up to five times the impact resistance of regular wallboard. This is achieved through higher wallboard density and the presence of fiber mesh embedded in the backside of the wallboard. USG offers two types of impact-resistant drywall panels that provide moderate abuse resistance and two types of panels that provide high levels of abuse resistance.
Advantages include:
Due to high demand of these abuse-resistant gypsum board products and systems, testing standards were developed and revised to reflect industry requirements. The main ASTM standard for abuse classification is ASTM C1629 which specifies the levels of performance. Annex A1 describes test methods for testing impact-resistant sheetrock and other products for Hard Body Impact Resistance.
ASTM C1629 makes reference to three other test methods for abuse resistance: ASTM E695 for Soft Body Impact, ASTM D4977 for Abrasion resistance, ASTM D 5420 for Indentation Resistance.
Our high-impact gypsum board solutions are just another way in which USG Corporation supports and provides for our customers. Our products are engineered to deliver the highest levels of performance and durability for countless applications.
