Women in Manufacturing Give Back

August 7, 2019

We want to be a great place to work, where the industry’s most talented people can build a career. With eight Employee Resource Groups and five employee led networking groups, our employees can find development, mentoring, and engagement for their unique interests.

Recently, 55 female leaders from across the company gathered at our Cloquet, Minn. plant for our seventh annual Women in Manufacturing Forum. The Forum is a two-day educational event where members share best practices, develop their leadership skills and discuss ways to grow throughout their professional lives.

The two-day forum included training in leadership communication, stress and time management and networking. A variety of speakers, including CEO Chris Griffin, and Penny Dieryck, a retired colonel from the 148th Fighter Wing in of Duluth and a Red Cross member, addressed the women as well. Colonel Dieryck talked about what it means to be a woman in the workforce, how to advance your career and how to effectively communicate with your co-workers.

Stacy Kuszmaul, plant manager of our Sigurd, Utah plant, explained that “Women in Manufacturing is the group that we started with the intent to promote and retain females in the manufacturing industry. We focus on training and mentoring our female employees because we want them to be successful and show that they can do the jobs we have in manufacturing.”

While the forum provides an opportunity for the women to meet and share experiences from their careers, they also lived USG’s core values of service and integrity by participating in a service activity with the American Red Cross. Attendees assembled 250 hygiene kits for fire victims, the homeless, and veterans in need.
